Make plans now to spend time with us at
Wild Country RV Resort in Cisco, Texas

There are many things to see and do in the towns surrounding our park. In Cisco, you can visit Conrad Hilton's first hotel, the Mobley. Conrad Hilton began his fabulous career as "innkeeper to the World" when he purchased the Mobley, in Cisco, Texas, in 1919. Now completely renovated and adapted for reuse, this Memorial Park and Community Center was opened to the public after its dedication in October 1986. It now serve as a community center, museum, and park and houses an "Innkeeper Gallery" tribute to Hilton that includes photographs, graphic images, and other objects, and a film exhibit with some two total hours of various programs about Conrad Hilton, Hilton Hotels, and the Hilton Center in Cisco. It is also the headquarters of the Cisco Chamber of Commerce and hosts dinner theater presentations by Cisco Junior College. Today the old hotel building, which Hilton called a "cross between a flophouse and a gold mine" has been formally recognized, deserving its place on the National Register of Historic buildings. Through the generous $1.2 million grant from the Hilton Foundation, an appropriate memorial to Conrad Hilton was made possible, and was an eventual reality, with the renovation of the Mobley. (Picture) An endowment fund was created to assist with maintenance and operation of the Center. With the helpful gifts of many contributors, the endowment fund has grown and hopefully will continue to do so until the property¿s operation will be self-supporting.

Cisco is also the scene of the famous (or infamous) Santa Claus bank robbery in 1927. During Christmas festivities, costumed Santa and three fellow bandits looted the First National Bank of Cisco of $12,200 cash and $150,000 in securities. They escaped through a gun battle, taking two little girls as hostages. A three-day manhunt followed. The children and money were recovered; and the robbers captured. Six persons were killed and eight injured. Later a mob lynched "Santa" when he broke out of jail. The old bank building still stands in Cisco, but First National Bank moved to a new location in 1982. The Cisco Chamber offers booklets detailing this historical event and has on display many items taken from the robbery scene, including Santa¿s costume, some of the bullets fired, and newspaper clippings.
Beautiful Lake Cisco offers great fishing, boating, and water sports. Cisco Country Club, which overlooks the lake, is available for rental for group activities, weddings, etc., and adjoins a nine-hole golf course. There are many other historical sites, historical homes and two museums located in Cisco. You can enjoy abundant antique shopping three city parks and a swimming pool, tennis courts, and much more in Cisco. In April of each year the ladies of the Cisco Civic League sponsor an old-fashioned folk-life festival as their main fund raising event. The festival takes place the fourth weekend of April and is filled with food, entertainment, crafts, and exciting events. If you visit us the fourth full weekend in April, you will not want to miss this fun family activity held on the Cisco Junior College campus, located just north of town on Highway 6. Persons interested in booths should contact Millie Lewis, 254-442-3827.

Cisco Junior College
Cisco is the hub of education for this area of the state. Within an hour's driving distance there are eight other colleges and universities for continued education. Cisco Junior College is one of the state's finest junior colleges with campuses in Cisco and Abilene.

During the summer months, you will want to make reservations to attend Cisco Junior College's summer dinner theater. You can get information by calling (254) 442-2567. The featured presentation for the 2005 season was "The Santa Claus Bank Robbery," a fiction portrayal based on a real robbery of First National Bank of Cisco in 1927. It was a fantastic performance which was hilariously funny one minute, but heartbreaking the next. We are hoping the performance will become an annual show. Each performance was a sell out, and many people who wanted to see it could not get reservations. Check with the college in late spring each year to find out the theatre schedule.

Cisco is also the childhood home of Dash Crofts, of Seals and Crofts fame. Dash grew up in one of the historical two story homes in Cisco, built in 1898. Although tours of the home are not available at this time, it can be seen at 512 West 5th Street in Cisco. The home is now owned by Teddy Jay Anderson, son of the owners of Wild Country RV Resort.

You will not want to miss the Holiday Market at the Hilton. The dates for 2005 are November 19 & 20th. Exhibitors from all around the country come to Cisco to market their crafts, jewelry, clothing, toys and more. This presents a wonderful opportunity to find that special gift for someone who has everything. Our exhibitors set up booths all inside the community center and all around the grounds to provide you with some excellent Christmas shopping in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. A snack bar is set up at the Holiday Market where you can purchase delicious home baked goodies, or enjoy coffee or a cold drink. The entire community looks forward to this special time of year to celebrate at the Market.
